Mazda CX-5 – Car of the Year in Japan

New Sport Utility Vehicle Mazda CX-5 has won the annual competition of the “Car of the Year of Japan”, the results of which were announced on 29 November. During the final round the CX-5 model has earned 363 points, leaving the nearest rival Toyota 86 coupe or Subaru BRZ behind by 45 points. The jury of this competition consisted of 60 well-known Japanese journalists. From the point of view of Mazda, CX-5 selection as the winner is mainly thanks to the successful design and new technology SKYACTIV.

It should be noted that the Mazda CX-5 is not only good in the opinion of journalists, but even among usual Japanese motorists. Home sales in Japan of this 2012 year model started in February of this year, and to date Mazda has received about 37,000 orders for this crossover. Given that the company originally planned to sell a thousand of CX-5 each month, the three-year plan has already been met.

Last time Mazda has received the title of best Japanese car in year 2005 with the model of Mazda Roadster (Mazda MX-5). As for the winners of the last years, it was Nissan Leaf (2011), Honda CR-Z (2010) and the Toyota Prius (2009). Therefore we can now think that the customers and judges had taken a really good and right step this year, as all the benefits and advantages of new Mazda SUV were noticed.
