Japanese brand focuses on the increase in sales of the existing lineup. But many of us remember the RX Vision concept, which was presented by Mazda last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car demonstrated to the public was supposed to be the basis for mass production of sports car with a rotary engine, but as it turned out, the Japanese brand management decided to put off the implementation of this project.

“I was heartened by the RX Vision concept, but I think we have created a kind of dream that will gain serial form, but we do not have an immediate plans to implement this project,” – said the representative of the top management of Mazda Yuji Nakemine in an interview to the «CarAdvice» edition. Such a decision is hardly surprising. The fact is that today the sports coupe market is gradually reduced, so that even for the venerable automaker it is difficult to develop new models that could enjoy notable success. Moreover, the situation is complicated for a car with a rotary engine, whose production is much more expensive than a conventional piston.

At the moment the strategic objective of Mazda is the successful sales of the existing lineup, and in case of success, the brand management can think about returning to the idea of the car with a rotary engine, which will be the successor of the legendary sports car RX-8.
